I feel really fortunate to have set up shop as a Realtor® in the Aberdeen, MD real estate community. Being right next to Havre de Grace, MD- my birthplace and a market I am intimately familiar with- I am excited about the prospects our area has to offer because it is at the cusp of a thriving geographic region that I have plenty of access to. Also nearby and where I also have a major involvement, are the rest of Harford County, Baltimore County and City, as well as Cecil County.

The Aberdeen, MD real estate market has had even some nationwide implication recently because of the Federal Government’s Base Realignment and Closure initiative (known widely as BRAC), began in 2005. In the attempt by the Government to reduce costs through consolidation, they have permanently closed their facility in Fort Monmouth, NJ by combining it with and expanding the facility in Aberdeen, MD. This move has brought thousands of jobs to the area, which has done wonders for the housing market and the state’s economy overall.  Now that BRAC is considered complete, the area is bustling with activity and further development.

Despite the growth that we have been benefiting from, the real estate market overall has, of course, had its problems. The credit boom over the past decade has given the economy a hangover that is almost impossible to eliminate, and as a result, home prices have slid pretty considerably. In addition to the extremely affordable housing prices, mortgage interest rates have also dipped to all-time lows. These factors combined have created a real estate market that is more attractive than any that customers and real estate agents have ever seen.

One would think that a market like this would only be beneficial to a first-time homebuyer, since prices are low, and selling right now would probably be detrimental, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. A seller can still make money in this market, and reap even greater benefits by moving into a better home at unbelievable terms!
